Life is Golden. Harley's Hounds, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization dedicated to neglected animals throughout the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas. Our mission was inspired by our Founders' late Golden Retriever, Harley Ray. He had a beautiful life and all who knew him, loved him. We believe every animal deserves that same chance.
What began as a small grassroots effort in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas has grown into a thriving organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of countless animals in our path.
Mission and Impact
Jess moved to the Rio Grande Valley with her family in 2021 (from Minnesota) and just four days later stumbled upon her first street dog rescue attempt of a stray dog in San Benito, TX. The pursuit continues to this day. She fondly refers to her as "Benito" and over 2 years later, relentlessly continues to try to lure her into what she calls "the good life". This would consist of regular feeding, health and long lounging sessions on a couch.
She began fostering nearly immediately after and realized there was a deeper need for animal welfare reform here in the Rio Grande Valley. She's connected with rescue organizations across the nation and is committed to forging trusted relationships where animals can be transported to great care and successful adopters.
She finds it an honor to be a catalyst for change — a guiding force to inspire volunteers, donors, and the community at large to come together for a common cause. There's just one single requirement to be a good human while in her company: You must love dogs!

A lifetime dog lover, Amy's introduction to animal rescue was after Hurricane Harvey in 2017. She heard that many animals were being transported to Austin from Houston due to the flooding and that shelters were beyond capacity. She canceled her afternoon meetings and rushed to the shelter to pick up her first foster. After experiencing both the challenges and rewards of fostering firsthand, she jumped at the chance to join the board of Harley's Hounds to continue supporting Texas dogs in need.
Amy brings 25 years of business experience and a wide-range of skills, from marketing and project management to operations and bookkeeping.
